BSDF Photo and Poetry Competition Terms and Conditions 

1. ELIGIBILITY

  • The competition is open to all amateur photographers and poets except BSDF committee members. Photos must be of locations within the 4178 and 4179 post code areas. Poetry must be written for one of the winning photographs for that year.
  • For the purposes of this competition, an amateur is defined as someone who earned less than AUD$20,000 from their photography or poetry in the 12 months preceding the date of the competition.

2. SUBMISSION OF PHOTO ENTRIES

  • Photographs up to 2 MB in size must be submitted online. The organisers may subsequently request higher resolution images.
  • Entries should be in JPEG format and at least 1600 pixels wide for a horizontal image or 1600 pixels tall for a vertical image.
  • The file name for each photograph should be clearly labelled with the location where the photograph was taken e.g. Wynnum Central, Manly foreshore.
  • Each participant can submit up to three (3) entries.
  • Digital manipulation that distorts the reality of the photos will not be allowed. Only basic enhancements such as sharpening, contrast adjustment, or simple cropping will be allowed.
  • The organisers reserve the right to reject entries with incomplete details.
  • All submitted materials are non-returnable.
  • Participants are entirely responsible for all entry-related costs.
  • For photos in which a person in recognisable, you must secure a signed model release form from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian and provide it to BSDF along with your entry.

3. SUBMISSION OF POETRY ENTRIES

  • Poetry entries must be submitted online
  • Entries must be no larger than 15 words and no longer than 2 lines
  • Each participant can submit up to 2 entries
  • The organisers reserve the right to reject entries with incomplete details.

4. COPYRIGHT/INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

  • Entries must be the original and unpublished work of the participant and copyright owner.
  • The organisers reserve the right to reproduce any entry in print, broadcast and/or electronic media without requiring the permission of the participant and without any fee payment. However, the photographer/author will be acknowledged where possible.
  • The photographs and poetry will be used to promote our local area in both print form and electronically.
  • Images and poetry received through the BSDf competitions will not be used for any other commercial purposes, other than noted above.

4. JUDGING AND RESULTS

  • The images / poetry will be selected by a panel of judges and their decision is final. No correspondence pertaining to the selection process and decision will be entertained.
  • Entries will be judged based on originality, creativity and relevance to the theme.

5. ACCEPTANCE OF RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Submission of entries signifies acceptance of the rules and regulations of the competition.
  • While the organisers will exercise due care during the collection, selection and storage of images / poetry, it shall not be held liable for any loss, theft or destruction of the images.
